SOS Children's Villages Charity Campaign

Claranet has been a sponsor of the SOS Children’s Villages charity since January 2009 and has a target of raising £35,000 through a series of events.

This year, the fundraising initiatives include: A Poker night, held at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino, an SOS Charity Gala to be held at the BT Tower, a Quiz Night and a City Challenge, a team building event involving Claranet staff. In order to encourage green business, Claranet has committed to make a further donation every time a customer chooses to switch to electronic billing. 

For nearly sixty years, SOS Children has developed an approach based on building a community for children who have nobody to turn to. Traditionally, they have provided children with a home, a family and a new mother in a purpose-built local Village, where they can stay until they are ready for independent life.

Currently the charity runs 490 of these unique SOS Children’s Villages, and 396 Youth Homes, caring directly for more than 78,000 children in 124 countries worldwide. However, SOS Children’s Villages strategic goal for the next eight years is to increase these numbers and help a million child sponsors give a million children a family life.

Not only does the charity provide care for children in the SOS Children’s Villages, but they also play an important role in supporting the development and sustainability of local communities. They invest in the futures of thousands of children in the community, making sure they have the tools they need to become independent young adults. This is done by;

• Building and running more than 500 nursery, primary and secondary schools and Vocational Training Centres.
• Building SOS Medical Centres which provide communities with immediate medical treatment and preventative and palliative care.
• They offer skills, training, education, counselling, micro-loans and improved nutrition to vulnerable families.
• And are quick to provide emergency assistance in times of conflict, famine or disaster.

SOS Children believe that all children should belong to a family which is why they look after children who have lost their parents through war, famine, disease or poverty. Our support helps fund their amazing work which makes such a difference to the lives and upbringing of children around the world.

SOS Children UK refers to SOS Kinderdorf worldwide. SOS Children is a working name for SOS Children’s Villages UK.
