General Connectivity Settings

For those who need to configure advanced router or modem settings, the following information may be useful. Please note that modifying advanced settings should only be done by experienced personnel.

If you have a broadband account with Claranet, please be sure to read the following information before setting up a modem or router.

Pre-configuration Checklist

When setting up your ADSL service, you will need to know:

  • Does your ADSL product use NAT (Network Address Translation) or
    NON-NAT? As a general guide business accounts will be NON-NAT.
  • If you have a NON-NAT solution you will have been provided with
    a real IP range which you will be required to enter.

In addition, to set up your connection you will need to:

  • Know your Claranet username and password.
  • Ensure your computer, or router's WAN is setup to 'Obtain an IP address Automatically' (This applies even if you are using a NON-NAT solution).
  • Have a copy of the Manufacturer's instructions for the Router or Modem.

Basic ADSL Configuration Information

ADSL hardware may be configured using your browser via a 'Web interface'; alternatively the device may have come with an installation disk, to help you configure your connectivity. Information about how to set up your ADSL device is likely to be available in the instruction booklet supplied with your hardware. Please also be sure that your connection is set up in the following way

Encapsulation :- PPPoA
