Guide to the Zyxel Router

Please refer to the manufacturer's instructions supplied with your hardware for details on how to connect your ADSL device to the phone line, power source and the computer.

Configuring the Zyxel (Non Managed) router for a NAT solution.

1) The Zyxel router is configured using a Web Interface. To access this, open
your web browser and type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar.

2) When prompted, enter your router's admin password (this may have been
supplied with the router and is not necessarily your Claranet broadband
password). If this is the first time you have accessed the interface, or
you have not changed the admin password, the default password
should be 1234.

3) You may be prompted to change your admin password. If you wish to do so, enter the desired password in the relevant field and click on Apply. If you do not wish to change your admin password click Ignore to continue.

4) From the Zyxel main menu, select Wizard Setup.

5) Insert the basic router configuration details then select Next.

Mode: Routing
Encapsulation: PPPoA
Multiplex: VC
VPI: 0
VCI: 38

6) Insert your login details as provided by Claranet. Please ensure that the following options are selected and click on Next to proceed.

IP address: Obtain an IP Address Automatically
Connection: Nailed-Up Connection
Network address translation: SUA Only

7) On the router configuration summary click Save Settings.

8) The router will now test your ADSL line. Once it has completed the test,
return back to the Main Menu and select Logout.

Configuring the Zyxel (Non Managed) router for a NON-NAT solution.

Please follow the instructions detailed on the previous section (Configuring the Zyxel router for a NAT solution) until you reach step 6 before continuing with the next set of steps as detailed below.

1) In the Network Address Translation field, select None.

2) On the Router Configuration Summary select "Change LAN Configuration".

3) From the IP range supplied to you, please insert the first available IP as the LAN IP Address. Please note that since the first and last IP addresses in your range (known as the "Network Address" and the "Broadcast Address") are reserved, they are unavailable. In this case the first available IP will be in fact be the second IP in your range.

Enter the correct 'LAN Subnet Mask'.
Ensure that DHCP is turned off.
These details will be supplied by Claranet if you have a NON-NAT solution with us.

4) On the Router Configuration Summary select Save Settings.

5) The router will now test your ADSL line. Once the test is completed please return back to the Main Menu and select Logout.

6) NB: In order to communicate with the router correctly. Please ensure that you have assigned one of the IP addresses from the range to your computer, this is done usually through the TCP/IP settings on your computer.
