Claranet designs Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) services specifically to
a customers’ specification. Working closely with customers from an initial meeting, Claranet provides MPLS solutions that are differentiated from the many generic offerings in the marketplace.
One customer asked Claranet to provide them with a cost efficient way of connecting sites from a provider. The solution needed the flexibility to meet unique business challenges; reducing network overheads, creating a process to manage connectionless protocols and providing a means to expand IP datagram strategy into a scalable option for high demand applications such as video, telephony and EPOS. The system previously supported a WAN infrastructure based on IPSec VPN and frame relay.
Claranet’s experts devised a bespoke solution, a private IP VPN for over 20 sites. With the new solution the customer was able to achieve traffic prioritisation, which was important for the applications used in its business.
Through flexibility, design, understanding and experience of MPLS, Claranet consolidated and modernised its current infrastructure. This allowed the customer to re-deploy human resources away from internally managed infrastructure, make budgetary savings, enhance a secure WAN environment and generally present a streamlined solution. Crucially, only one Service Provider was needed to support the entire solution – Claranet.
All Claranet solutions are scalable and the customer now plans a phased roll-out of infrastructure. Field sites (comprising office and client sites) will be enabled to access application resources at the Head Office, allowing multiple sites to operate privately within a secure WAN.
