Using Your Clarahost Account

This page will help you to start using your Clarahost package quickly and easily. Throughout this guide, please replace "yourdomain.com" with the domain you have registered.

Uploading

You can upload files to your webspace using FTP. We have created guides on the most popular FTP clients here to help you. If you would prefer to use Microsoft Frontpage, you can enable this through your domain management suite (DMS).

When configuring your FTP program you should use the following settings, along with your full password:

Hostname: www.yourdomain.com
Username: yourdomain.com

Once you have logged into your webspace, navigate to the "public" folder, and within that, the "www" folder. This is where your files should be stored. Files named index.htm or index.html will be the first files to load when you domain is accessed online, this is often referred to as your 'homepage'.

Email

By default, all e-mail addressed to any address @yourdomain.com will becollected into a single mailbox. This is known as your catch-all account, and has the address postmaster@yourdomain.com. If you wish to create specific email addresses, you can login to your domain management suite to create as many e-mail addresses as your package allows. You can also turn off your catch-all address, if it is not required.

Many people prefer to download their e-mail using a mail client. We have created guides to setting up the most popular e-mail clients here. Please use your full e-mail address as your username, along with these settings:

Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop.clara.net
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): relay.clara.net

If you are not connected to the internet using Claranet, you will need to set up your mail client to authenticate on our outgoing mail server. To do this, use your full e-mail address and password. Please refer to our mail client guides for further advice; alternatively, please call us, and we will be happy to talk you through the procedure.

You can also check your e-mail through our website. When you login, please use your full e-mail address.
