Your website can be accessed by either using http://home.clara.net/yourusername or http://www.yourusername.clara.net.
You can often submit your website to the most popular search engines, so we recommend contacting them for further advice. Search engines like Google or Yahoo index websites, and decide where they should appear in search results, based on what other websites link to them.
Web pages are just simple text documents, with tags to format the page. Although we generally do not provide technical support with coding a website, we have made a simple tutorial page, which can be found here. There are many other guides to HTML on the web.
Alternatively, there are many editors available which will do this formatting for you. Word processors such as Microsoft Word come with the ability to save files as HTML, and there are many free programs which are made specifically for designing websites.
Please remember that your homepage should be called either index.htm or index.html, as the file with this name is the file that our servers will load first when people visit your site.
When uploading your site, please use home.clara.net as the hostname, along with your username and password. Please bear in mind that you can only upload to your webspace if you are connected to the internet using Claranet.
FTP tutorials can be found here. We have also created a basic guide to troubleshooting HTML problems, which can be found here.
Our accounts offer 25-50MB of free web space depending on the service you have subscribed to, and our pay-as-you-go dial-up account comes with 10MB. Please contact us to verify the amount of free webspace bolted on to your account.
A record of the amount of space you have used is kept on the web server, so if you try to upload a file that will take you over your limit, the upload will be aborted, so you do not need to worry about exceeding your webspace limit.
