Towards Zero Downtime - Debate

In today's increasingly competitive online marketplace, companies must always be 'open for business'. To tackle the challenge, Claranet has set up a seminar series where industry leaders, technical experts and client companies can meet and discuss the issues of always-on computing.

'Towards Zero Downtime' is a series of eight business information security forums hosted by Claranet. Each seminar will focus on a different aspect of 'always-on' online computing for hosting and critical networks. The series
was launched at the House of Lords in November 2006.

What is it about...? Why does it matter...? Is it achievable...?

The Dotcom promised a lot and delivered little. Today the Internet is a different proposition. The websites that have survived are thriving and for many expectations have been exceeded.

Money is being made online, e-commerce is a way of life, email is ubiquitous, and VOIP and convergence are realities. In short, the Web is making serious money, is sustainable and has become a business critical delivery medium.

Business models, competition and online brand equity now require web sites and Internet communication to be available all the time. Downtime costs money, loses customers to the competition and creates major upheaval for companies.

Internet systems which suffer from downtime lose money and can cause business failure. So the challenge for online systems is to be always available - 'Zero Downtime' is the target for COO and IT personnel. So, is it achievable? Who is responsible?

Claranet's 'Towards Zero Downtime' series will tackle these questions and more.
